Skydiving Weight Limits: What To Know

Published: January 15, 2021

If you're doing your due diligence seeking out a skydiving center to make your first skydive, there's a lot to consider and research. For some, one question might pop up, a sensitive one to boot: is there a weight limit to skydive? We'll do our best to navigate around this sensitive subject on bodyweight, but to answer if there is a skydiving weight limit, the answer is yes. Let's explore this delicate question to understand why.

Is There a Minimum Weight for Skydiving?

Firstly, at Skydive Cincinnati, one of our requirements is that you need to be at least 18 years of age to skydive with us. With that being said, we impose no specific minimum skydiving weight requirements, just as long as a student can fit snug in the harness.

Is there a Max Weight for Skydiving?

Yes. There is a max weight for tandem skydiving due to a few various safety factors. The max weight for tandem skydiving at Skydive Cincinnati is 225 pounds. This limit may vary from place to place due to specific equipment used, but the skydiving weight limits are generally around the same. There are a few exceptions of places that take may guests up to 250 pounds, but this is not the norm.

Why is there a Max Weight for Skydiving?

We're sure you may have guessed the answer, but in one word: safety. Skydiving equipment is designed for two passengers to withstand certain parameters and not to exceed certain weight criteria. If it exceeds it, the parachute equipment may risk failure. Therefore, we abide by the weight requirements our equipment manufacturer imposes for your safety as well as ours.

Is Skydiving Overweight Possible?

As we answered above, the max weight for tandem skydiving at Skydive Cincinnati is 225 pounds. The tandem harness is designed for body shapes around this weight limit and is definitely not a one-size-fits-all harness as it may be tight, may cut off circulation, and will feel rather uncomfortable.

Not only is safety our top priority, but so is your comfort and overall experience.

My Dream is To Skydive but I'm Overweight. What do I do?

Sadly, we've had to turn people away for being over the skydiving weight limit. Trust us, this isn't easy as we wish for you to skydive as much as you do! However, we've witnessed several fairy tale stories of guests losing weight and celebrating by making that skydive! It's hard work, but for every person we've met they've all said, "it was worth it!"

We absolutely understand the sensitivity of discussing body weight. It is certainly not our intent to embarrass, but rather address the subject openly so you can plan for the best day possible.
